And now… The rest of the story
Ok. So where did I leave off? We arrived at the hotel in Seattle at 6 am. We got up around noon, picked up the rental car and drove to Wenatchee. We drove through the Cascades. It was really pretty, but I didn’t take any pictures. I was driving. I’m a safety girl! Melissa picked us up from the airport and we were off to Okanogan were she is a dispatcher for the sheriff’s department. It was pretty cool. Lots of fancy computers and stuff. That night we stayed at their house in Oroville. They live right on a lake. I don’t remember which one, but it is very large. You can see Canada from their living room. (Just don’t ask Jody about Canada)
The next day we went wine tasting, headed over to Canada for lunch and went over to their friends house to play games. Long day, but really fun. Saturday we went over to Waterville for Jody’s mom’s birthday. (If all these towns are confusing check out this sight for some info.) After the party, it was onward to Seattle.
Sunday morning we went to the Space Needle. After looking around the city from above we headed over to Pike Place Market. Pike’s is a very large farmer’s market with loads of fresh flowers, flea market stuff and FISH! Pike Place is most well known for being the place where they throw fish. We had lunch with some friends of Jody’s then headed back toward the Space Needle where we hit up the Experience Music Project. It is a museum of the history of modern music. The two main exhibits were Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan. They have a lot of cool stuff! After EMP we headed over to the Pacific Science Center. One of better science museums that I have been too. There were a lot of hands on projects for kids (that entertained us for a couple of hours!). We also hit up the 3-D IMAX movie “Deep Sea”. Long day! (Click here for all my Seattle pics.)
Monday morning, Laura and I said goodbye to Melissa and Jody. Jody was flying out to Chicago to visit his brother and Melissa had a 5 hour drive before working a 10 hour shift. Laura and I took our time checking out of the hotel and then headed to Pioneer Square to do the “Seattle Underground Tour”. Once of the best “tours” I have ever done. Seattle has a very interesting history, that includes sanitation problems eventually leading to streets being 10 to 25 feet above the sidewalks and stores. If you are interested in hearing more, let me know and I will go into greater detail.
After the tour is was off to the last leg of “planes, trains and automobiles”. I had a blast in Washington and hope to go back sometime in the near future. It was a lot of fun hanging out with my friends from college, and of course Jody! But, I am happy to be back at home after traveling approximately 2,848 miles in just 6 short days! Again, check out the pictures here and drop me a line if you have any questions, comments or concerns. I hope you enjoyed this “link-happy” story.
